About the Course

If you are a HR department or a business owner and want to know the basics of employment law, this course will provide you with a good understanding of the different areas of law in relation to employees. Develop an understanding of contract law, employee rights, how to terminate employment properly and what steps must be taken if the business is acquired or transferred to safeguard employees.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for employees, or even employees themselves who wish to gain a deeper insight into their rights under employment law. It is ideally suited to those who have some responsibility for employees, as well as individuals in HR departments and small businesses.

Course Content

Immigration Requirements – Recognise the importance of employing workers on a legal basis and the steps that you need to take to ensure that the people you employ are eligible for work in the UK. Understand the process of work permits and demonstrate familiarity with the application process.

Contractual Terms – While contracts aren’t mandatory, they do help employers and employees in many different ways. Discover the importance of issuing a statement of particulars, learn the difference between express, implied and varying terms and identify some of the different elements that make up a contract of employment.

Rights During Employment – Every employee has certain rights when they join their employer. Explore some of these rights such as working time regulations, the rules for those who work nights, rest periods and the national minimum wage for different age groups. Employees also have certain rights to leave and this module will also cover paternity, maternity and adoption leave.

Termination of Employment – There are always reasons why an employee may be terminated and when this is necessary it must be carried out in the right way. Learn about the different types of dismissal, the steps that employers can take to reduce the likelihood of a claim from an employee following termination of employment and best practice for the dismissal process.

Format

All of our courses are delivered directly online and are self paced so you can study wherever and whenever. The course material is delivered in short sections covering each of the above units in detail and is accompanied with a short test at the end of each to reinforce what you have learned. In order to complete the course successfully you will need to pass 21 out of 30 questions in the end of course assessment.
